Secure FTP Editor's Review

Secure FTP is a FTP client which can also use SSL connections.

The support for SSL includes both Implicit SSL and Explicit SSL working modes. This support for encrypted connections is pretty good as not all the Mac OS X FTP clients which support SSH connections can handle Implicit or Explicit SSL connections.

The application is fast, and the interface is quite well designed. It uses a classic look with a local and a remote file browser. The remote browser uses a tabular interface, so the application allows you to manage multiple FTP accounts at the same time.

An interesting feature is the possibility to send raw commands to the FTP server. This feature allows you to do some things that usually can be done from a command line FTP client.

Secure FTP also has a bookmark functionality. You can define a list of your used FTP accounts, so the connection to a host is as easy to establish by selecting a menu item. I liked the fact that it dynamically assigns hot-keys to the bookmarks.

Pluses: it is fast; it has a pretty good interface; it supports FTP over SSL, both Implicit or Explicit; it is free for non-comercial use; it has a bookmark functionality.

Drawbacks / flaws: it doesn't provide you a good way of resuming a broken transfer.

In conclusion: the application is quite good, and the only thing that can put you into trouble is a broken transfer in some cases. A good alternative of this product is Cyberduck.
